Inauguration of English Lap

Tamilnadu Governor Surjit Sing Barnala today inaugurated a computerized English language laboratory in Chennai and said students should develop communication skills to become employable.

Speaking at the Stenographer's Guild, Where the lab located, the governor said engineering graduates have good track records but some of them are unemployable because they lack communication skills.

Mere graduation in information technology or computer science alone will not only suffice. It is a must to develop proficiency in English and one should be capable of communicating fluently in English, Governor said.

He also stressed that conversing in English Should be made a practice and is necessary for any professional.

S Ramachandran, Vice -Chancellor of the University of Madras in his speech said, 'our country is emerging as a knowledge hub and employments have also created more demands that our students are not able to fit the bill'.

'There is a mismatch in the demands expected by company and from the students who come out from college every year, he added.

He also said that today learning is for earning and for better employment students must be taught at the college level itself as tremendous opportunity are available in the form of BPOs/KPOs he sad.

M Nagasubramanian, honorary secretary, in his report said that the new lab would be a boon to the underprivileged sections of the society and also to the Government of Tamilnadu whose various departments like adi dravidar welfare, backward and most backward classes are already conducting training programmes in their premises. Honorary president of the guild' S V Ramaswamy also spoke on the occasion.
