The Stenographers' Guild is the only non-profit Professional
organization in India which has emerged, with the passage of time, to
provide Shorthand, Computer and Secretarial training under one roof. By
virtue of its accomplishments over the years, the Stenographers' Guild
has earned a reputation for itself. Many Government departments, private
and public sector organizations are time and again utilizing the
expertise of the Guild for training, selection/recruitment, Refresher
training programmers through workshops, etc.
Shri Rajaji inaugurated the Guild in the year 1937. Since then,
dignitaries of eminence who include all Governors of Tamil Nadu viz.
Shri. Surjit Singh Barnala, Shri K.K.Shah, Dr.Bhishma Narain Singh,
Dr.P.C.Alexandar, Dr.Channa Reddy, (Ms.) Justice Fathima Beevi, former
Presidents of India Shri A.P.J Apdul Kalam, Shri R.Venkataraman, former
Chief Election Commissioners Shri T.N.Seshan, Shri T.S.Krishnamurthy,
Central Vigilance Commissioner Shri N.Vittal, Union Ministers and
Ministers of State, Chief Justices and Judges of Supreme Court and High
Courts, Directors General of Police, academicians, bureaucrats,
industrialists etc. have visited the Guild on various important
occasions and appreciated the activities of the Guild. Mr. Peter Pitman,
grandson, Mr.Christopher Miller, the great grandson and Ms Margaret
Miller, the great grand daughter of Sir Isaac Pitman, the Inventor of
English Shorthand have visited the Guild. Ms. Margaret Miller donated a
rare bronze statue of Sir Isaac Pitman to the Guild, the only of its
kind available, and the same has been installed at the entrance of the
Guild. This Bronze statue of Sir Isaac Pitman is being Worshipped,
Garlanded and Revered everyday by the office bearers, staff and the
students of the Guild. The Stenographers' Guild has been affiliated to
the Cambridge University as Cambridge Affiliation Centre for offering
training and sponsoring candidates for the examinations conducted by
them in Secretarial Skills and Information Technology.
